At the Law Society NT, our role extends beyond regulation. We exist to uphold confidence in the legal profession, protect the public interest, and ensure lawyers are supported by a fair, transparent and accountable regulatory framework.
We're now seeking an experienced legal professional to join our Executive Management Group as the Manager of Regulatory Services.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this is a rare leadership opportunity to influence the integrity, accountability and future of the legal profession across the Northern Territory.
As a key member of the executive team, you will lead the Society's regulatory functions under the Legal Profession Act 2006 (NT), overseeing complaints and investigations, disciplinary matters, trust account regulation, admissions, licensing and professional standards.
This is a role for a senior lawyer who enjoys complex legal work, strategic leadership and making a genuine impact. Your key areas of responsbility will be to:
- Lead the Society's Regulatory Services Unit
- Manage complaints, investigations and disciplinary proceedings
- Act as solicitor on the record in Tribunal and Supreme Court matters
- Provide strategic legal and regulatory advice to Council and Committees
- Oversee trust account and licensing functions
- Support admissions and professional standards activities
- Contribute to policy development and regulatory reform initiatives
- Work closely with the CEO and Executive Management Group to achieve the Society's strategic objectives
To be successful, you will bring
- Admission as a lawyer in an Australian jurisdiction
- Eligibility to hold an unrestricted practising certificate in the Northern Territory
- At least 7 years post-admission experience
- Strong litigation and advocacy experience
- Proven leadership and people management capability
Experience in professional regulation, investigations, complaints management, administrative law or disciplinary proceedings will be highly regarded.
