What you'll be doing
The GPPL program aims to support stronger collaboration between specialist Drug and Alcohol Services, General Practitioners (GPs), General Practices, and community Pharmacies within MNCLHD.
The GPPL Clinical Nurse Consultant will work closely with the Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) to provide clinical consultancy between the program and potential community providers.
About You
You are a highly experienced Registered Nurse with current registration through the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, supported by more than five years of full‑time equivalent post‑registration practice. Your career is strengthened by approved post‑registration qualifications directly relevant to Drug and Alcohol nursing, enabling you to work confidently and competently within specialist clinical environments across public health settings.
You bring advanced clinical skills in Drug and Alcohol assessment, care planning and treatment, with particular expertise in withdrawal management, opioid and other pharmacotherapies, psychosocial interventions, and hospital consultation liaison. You approach each client with a comprehensive, evidence‑informed perspective, ensuring that treatment planning is safe, person‑centred and aligned with best practice.
You demonstrate strong leadership in shaping and developing clinical practice, consistently applying current NSW Health policies, guidelines and contemporary evidence to improve service delivery. Your leadership style is collaborative and grounded in clinical integrity, supporting colleagues to maintain high standards of care while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Your communication skills allow you to engage effectively with clients, carers and a wide range of healthcare providers. You work seamlessly with General Practitioners, Community Pharmacies, hospital teams and community services, ensuring that information is shared clearly and respectfully to support coordinated, holistic care.
You have a proven ability to identify training needs within clinical teams and to design and deliver high‑quality education in Drug and Alcohol clinical skills. Your training approach is practical, engaging and tailored to the needs of diverse learners, contributing to improved capability and confidence across the workforce.
You thrive in multidisciplinary environments, valuing teamwork, service quality and cohesive care delivery. You consistently look for opportunities to strengthen continuity of care between acute services, primary care providers and community‑based organisations, ensuring that clients experience seamless transitions and sustained support throughout their treatment journey.
