Purpose & Impact

The Security Monitor (SM) - TDY is responsible for maintaining the security posture of restricted areas, including controlled and unclassified areas, ancillary buildings, and personnel movements and safety. The SM reports directly to the Security Monitor Supervisor (SMS). This position is responsible for providing line-of-sight monitoring of uncleared personnel/visitors to the site, or monitoring in accordance with the project's security concept of operations (CONOPs), to ensure sensitive information and infrastructure are safeguarded. In addition, SMs will ensure the movements of uncleared personnel are restricted to designated areas and tasks required for the particular activity assigned to them in accordance with site security and safety protocols.

Work Schedule & Assignment Structure

This position operates on a standard day-shift roster (5 days per week, 8 hours per day). The role is offered on a Temporary Duty (TDY) basis consisting of short-term, fixed-term assignments, typically executed on a rotational deployment schedule to provide surge coverage for site security monitoring needs. An initial temporary deployment duration of up to 6 months may be offered, with the potential for subsequent rotational extensions based on performance and mission requirements.

NOTE: Compensation for this rotational position is strictly based on hours worked during active deployment phases, with no payment or retainer applicable during off-rotation periods.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of SM Project CONOPs and site regulations, communicating security processes professionally.
  • Control uncleared personnel access, preventing unauthorized access to sensitive materials or areas, and actively preventing theft or removal of facility property.
  • Monitor and communicate effectively on the site's hand-held radio system.
  • Ensure that uncleared personnel/visitors do not bring or use unauthorized electronic equipment on the facility without explicit authorization from the Joint Security Staff.
  • Ensure that uncleared personnel/visitors are aware of and follow relevant evacuation, lockdown, and facility security procedures.
  • Accurately document security incidents, infractions, and self-reports.
  • Work in extreme weather environments with requirements for prolonged standing, walking, and climbing.
  • Provide escort and operational support to custodial, food services, or trades as directed by security management.
  • Uphold site health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

  • Environmental Exposure: Ability to work comfortably in inclement and extreme weather conditions, ranging from near 0°C (32°F) to over 40°C (104°F).
  • Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and maintain sustained physical alertness for prolonged periods. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • Visual Acuity: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Hazard Exposure: The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, high/precarious places, loud operational noise levels, and outside weather conditions.

Security & Medical Clearance Requirements

It is a condition of employment at JDFPG that employees obtain and retain the appropriate level of security clearance and medical clearance applicable to each role. The employee must possess and maintain an active U.S. SECRET security clearance.

Minimum Education And Experience

  • Year 12 completion (High School Diploma or equivalent).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of general work experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Previous security monitoring or escort experience.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing commercial hand-held radio communication systems.
