About The Role

At VACCA, the Research and Evidence Development (RED) team brings together research, culture, and community knowledge to create real change for Aboriginal children and families. Working alongside programs, the team turns evidence into action to strengthen services across the organisation.

The Research and Project Officer (Child Protection Reform) sit at the center of this work leading research and evaluation projects that support reform and reduce over-representation in the child protection system. From designing studies to tracking outcomes, this role ensures every insight is culturally grounded, community-informed, and drives meaningful impact.

About You

  • Lead the design and implementation of research and evaluation projects, from conceptualisation and reviewing literature, through to data collection, analysis and writing up and dissemination and knowledge translation.
  • Undertake research informed by Indigenous methodologies
  • Project Management on research and evaluation projects, including planning, problem solving, stakeholder engagement, and reporting.
  • Work with stakeholders to undertake and implement evaluation activities that include the development of program logics, data-plans and survey tools
  • Contribute to the development of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander evidence-base, evidence-informed practice and other resources guiding VACCA’s work through research.
  • Support the development of research/evaluation grant submissions for funding as required.
  • Contribute to the planning and thinking around research and evaluation to support child protection reforms.
  • Support team members and mentor other employees as required
  • Minimum 3-5 years in a similar role
  • Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence.
  • Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
