This is a pivotal leadership role at the heart of one of the ABC’s regional newsrooms. As Editor, ABC Mildura, Swan Hill and Horsham in Victoria, you will set the editorial direction, shape daily and long-term coverage, and drive high-impact journalism across digital, audio and social platforms.

Based in Mildura, you will lead a passionate team of content makers, providing clear editorial vision, guidance and support to ensure the newsroom consistently delivers distinctive, audience-focused storytelling. You’ll champion community-focused journalism, build strong local contacts, and ensure local content contributes meaningfully to state and national coverage.

This is an opportunity to lead with purpose, empowering journalists, strengthening editorial performance, and ensuring the ABC remains deeply connected to the people and stories of the region.

The Job

  • Drive editorial planning, content gathering and production across digital, audio, TV and social platforms.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the ABC Mildura, Swan Hill team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.
  • Identify strong local stories and share them across ABC News teams nationally.
  • Manage local emergency coverage plans and coordinate with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support community engagement initiatives and help deliver local and national projects that connect with audiences.
  • Implement initiatives to enhance efficiency in staffing, rostering and resource allocation.
  • Produce journalism that reflects the cultural, geographic and socioeconomic diversity of the broader Australian community.

You'll have:

  • Outstanding editorial judgement and proven ability to create and edit compelling, diverse content.
  • Significant experience leading, managing, and developing high performing teams.
  • Exceptional organisational, planning and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise and problem solve.
  • A current and valid driver's licence.
