About the Role

You will be working at Concord Repatriation General Hospital. Concord Repatriation General Hospital has built on its strengths of providing quality health services to returned servicemen and women and local communities, as well as undertaking world class clinical education and research.

The Platelet and Thrombosis Research Laboratory (PTRL) headed by Associate Professor Vivien Chen at the ANZAC Research Institute with close ties to Concord Haematology Department, Concord Hospital is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Officer (up to full-time). The term is part-time temporary Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Officer. The role is for 10 months.

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join the PTRL laboratory to deliver a discrete, time limited research project which includes characterising novel variants in inherited platelet disorders.

This project involves multiple modalities of platelet function testing/investigation as well as cell biology, transfection studies, confocal microscopy techniques including ex-vivo thrombus formation models.

The role is suitable experienced platelet biology scientist with a specialised skill set in platelet biology and ex vivo thrombus formation, capable of operating independently and completing the project to a high standard without supervision delays - as evidenced by first and/or senior authorship papers. Optimally, the appointee will be employed at 0.6 FTE in this role, with the remaining 0.4 FTE held as an academic appointment at the University of Sydney, ensuring strong clinical–academic linkage while maintaining clear delineation of responsibilities and funding sources.

About the Platelet and Thrombosis Research Laboratory

The Platelet and Thrombosis Research group investigates mechanisms of clot formation, the biology of platelets and coagulation proteins, and how manipulation of these can be used to influence disease outcome. We use these insights to design translational projects with impact on clinical thrombotic diseases. Our focuses are in developing novel assays of coagulation and platelet function; and investigating the role of procoagulant platelets in health and disease including immune-thrombosis, clots in cancer and cardiovascular disease.
