Technical Solutions Engineer - Utility - Scale Battery Energy Storage Systems

As part of their continued growth in Australia, they are seeking for a technical solutions engineer to support the design, integration, testing, and commissioning of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the National Electricity Market (NEM).

Key Responsibilities

BESS network/SCADA Design & Technical Consulting:

  • Analyze customer requirements, project specifications including BESS/SCADA network, cybersecurity and grid requirements for ESS projects.
  • Develop optimized technical solutions, BESS network/SCADA system configurations, and preliminary designs for utility-scale energy storage projects.
  • Conduct technical feasibility assessments, system sizing, performance modelling, and solution optimization.
  • Provide technical support throughout the sales cycle, including customer presentations, workshops, technical clarifications and specialist technical support during detailed design and commissioning phases.

Tendering & Proposal Management:

  • Lead the preparation of technical proposals, tender submissions, bid documentation, and compliance matrices.
  • Support commercial teams during bidding processes by providing technical evaluations and competitive positioning.
  • Coordinate cross-functional inputs from internal and external from engineering, product, quality, and delivery teams to ensure proposal accuracy and competitiveness.

Customer Engagement & Technical Negotiation:

  • Act as the primary technical interface with customers, consultants, EPC contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and due diligence meetings.
  • Prepare, review, and negotiate technical agreements, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Build long-term customer relationships and proactively identify emerging technical and commercial opportunities with key BESS network/SCADA and cybersecurity consultants.

Project Execution Support & Risk Management:

  • Identify technical risks during project development and execution phases and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Support project teams in resolving system integration, commissioning, and performance-related issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure successful project delivery and customer acceptance.
  • Provide technical guidance during BESS/SCADA network design, commissioning, and operational handover activities when required.

Market Intelligence & Product Development:

  • Monitor local market trends, regulatory developments, grid requirements, and competitor technologies.
  • Collect and analyze customer feedback, market requirements, and project learnings.
  • Translate market demands into product enhancement recommendations and new product requirements.
  • Support product roadmap development by providing market-driven technical insights regarding BESS networks/SCADA and cybersecurity requirements.

Internal Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Sales, Product Management, Engineering, Project Delivery, and Service teams to ensure alignment across the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the development of technical standards, solution templates, and best practices.
  • Support internal technical training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Renewable Energy, Energy Storage, or a related discipline to BESS network/SCADA design.
  • 5+ years of experience in energy storage, power systems, renewable energy, EPC, or related industries with a focus on BESS networks/SCADA
  • Strong understanding of battery energy storage systems, PCS, EMS, SCADA, grid integration, and renewable energy applications.
  • Familiarity with the cybersecurity requirements of a utility scale BESS site including the SOCI act, AESCSF SP1-3 and IEC 62443/ISO27001
  • Experience supporting utility-scale, renewable, microgrid, or C&I energy projects.
  • Familiarity with international and local grid codes, electrical standards, and industry regulations.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and technical presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and international business environment.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
