The Opportunity
We are looking for a motivated and customer-focused Regulatory Services Officer to join our Planning and Community Development team. This role provides a diverse range of administrative, technical and customer service support across the Shire's Planning, Building and Environmental Health functions, helping to ensure the effective delivery of regulatory services to our community.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative skills who is interested in planning, development and local government processes and is keen to develop their knowledge and experience within a supportive team environment.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Providing administrative support to the Planning and Regulatory Services team and broader Planning and Community Development Directorate;
- Acting as the first point of contact for planning enquiries and providing information to customers via phone, email and counter services;
- Assisting with the administration of development applications, including lodgement, registration and preliminary reviews for completeness;
- Maintaining databases, registers and records to support regulatory and planning functions;
- Coordinating referrals to internal departments and external agencies and assisting with public advertising requirements;
- Assisting with planning research, policy reviews and the preparation of reports, correspondence and development documentation;
- Supporting regulatory services activities through a variety of field-based inspections and compliance-related tasks under the guidance of qualified officers;
- Processing local law permits and assisting with property information requests and land purchase enquiries;
- Contributing to the review and improvement of policies, procedures and organisational directives;
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with legislative and organisational requirements;
- Participating in training, mentoring and professional development opportunities to build skills and knowledge across planning and regulatory services;
- Actively contributing to a positive team culture and delivering high-quality customer service outcomes.
A current unrestricted WA ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence and the ability to obtain an acceptable National Police Check are essential requirements for this role.
You will also need strong administration and organisational skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities, sound computer skills, a commitment to customer service, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. An interest in planning, development assessment and local government processes, along with a willingness to learn and develop new skills, will be highly regarded.
