Project Engineer

Job details

BHP has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract to a JV between Fluor and Hatch, to support the proposed expansion of its copper smelter and refinery facilities in South Australia.

The contract will be executed in stages as BHP progresses towards a final investment decision on the smelter and refinery expansion in FY27.

The first stage of EPCM activity represents more than $40 million of investment to lead overall strategy and planning through the projects study phases and forms part of the larger, separate investment for near-term growth projects at Olympic Dam.

Fluor / Hatch are currently setting up a team for this project, and due to pressing timeframes BHP have urged them to work with their Recruitment partners to assist in some areas where their own recruitment team may be struggling. They will need up to about 250 professional people for the first six months, with about 600 at peak. There will be another 1000 people at peak for the next phase (pending approval)

Phil H and Hamish had an introductory meeting with Fluors lead and BHPs Head of Projects recently and I have since met them both in Adelaide yesterday.

Role

They are keen to see CVs from us for Project Engineers in the next week. I have included the Role Profile that I have obtained further below, but following are some of the points from our meeting:

One role with the potential for more

The candidates do not need to be Adelaide based or have previous BHP experience but will need to be willing to relocate / FIFO. Can be located elsewhere!

EPCM Experience However Is Important.

Role will be office based initially (~1 year) then transition to site. This is important as some people prefer office or site, but the successful candidate(s) will need to be open to this.

This is a premium role

10-15 years experience but then mentioned that 12-20 is the sweet spot (but not greater than 20 years).

Remuneration No figure discussed, based on exp
