Role Overview Children’s Support Worker (Autism & Complex Care)

Staffpower Healthcare Recruitment is currently seeking dedicated and compassionate Children’s Support Workers to join a residential care service supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex care needs.

This rewarding role involves providing person-centred support within a residential setting, helping children and young people achieve positive outcomes while promoting their independence, wellbeing, and quality of life. You will play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where each child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care and support tailored to individual needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with children and young people.
  • Support daily living activities, personal care, and social development.
  • Implement care plans and behavioural support strategies.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to care reviews.
  • Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals, and the wider care team.
  • Safeguard and protect the welfare of all children and young people in your care.

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with autism and/or complex needs.
  • A caring, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and delivering outstanding care.
  • Relevant qualifications in Health and Social Care are desirable but not essential.

Essential Requirements

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience working with children and young people within a residential, healthcare, education, or social care setting.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning disabilities, and complex care needs.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to transport, as driving is required as part of the role.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Level 3 Diploma/Certificate in Residential Childcare (preferred).
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification.
  • Training in Autism Awareness, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Safeguarding, or Medication Administration.

Don’t Have the Qualification Yet? We welcome applications from candidates who have relevant experience working with children and young people, even if they do not currently hold a Level 3 qualification. Candidates who demonstrate the right values, commitment, and experience will be considered and supported to complete relevant training and development opportunities.

Shift Patterns

This role operates on a rota basis and includes a combination of long day shifts, sleep-ins, and early shifts:

  • Long Day Shift: 10:00am – 10:00pm
  • Sleep-In Shift: 10:00am – 7:00am (including overnight sleep-in)
  • Early Shift: 7:00am – 10:30am

Flexibility is essential, as the role will involve weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-in duties on a rotational basis.
