Freedom of Information Officer

THE ROLE

The Freedom of Information Officer works flexibly across all streams of FOI work. They act as an authorised officer under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic) and respond to Freedom of Information requests, subpoenas, court warrants and other requests for child protection information. They review the validity of requests, assess information for release, apply exemptions where required and make decisions on the release of information.

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

  • Retrieve, analyse and process information in response to requests for records, assessing the information against relevant legislation and ensuring timeliness, quality and completeness in responses.
  • Liaise with applicants and department staff regarding information requests.
  • Explain concepts and policies, procedures and guidelines relevant to freedom of information and subpoena processing.
