Excellent opportunity for an experienced Blast & Paint leader to drive operational performance, build internal capability and lead the delivery of critical marine maintenance and refurbishment projects.
Our client is a well-established marine construction and engineering contractor with a strong reputation for delivering vessel maintenance, marine asset refurbishment and complex infrastructure projects. Due to continued growth and increasing demand for in-house delivery capability, they are seeking an experienced Blast & Paint Superintendent to join their dockyard operations in the Yamba region.
The business provides a broad range of marine engineering and construction services including vessel maintenance, marine asset preservation, wharf and bridge works, piling, demolition, refurbishment and specialist marine infrastructure projects. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of a critical operational function and play a key role in the continued growth of the business.
Ideally having experience within one or more of marine, shipbuilding and shipyard (maintenance, repairs or newbuilds), Defence, industrial maintenance, heavy industry or infrastructure environments. Marine sector experience is ideal however candidates with other sector blast and paint will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities
Operational Delivery
- Plan and coordinate blast and paint activities across multiple dockyard projects
- Manage daily production activities in conjunction with supervisors and leading hands
- Allocate labour, equipment and materials to meet project schedules and operational requirements
- Coordinate blasting and painting activities with project managers and other trades
- Ensure surface preparation, blasting and coating applications meet project specifications and quality standards
- Monitor productivity and implement improvements to maximise operational performance
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor and develop the blast and paint workforce
- Build and strengthen internal capability to support increasing project workloads
- Drive workforce engagement, accountability and performance
- Improve labour utilisation, productivity and team effectiveness
- Foster a positive culture focused on safety, quality and continuous improvement
Safety, Environmental & Quality
- Ensure all blasting and coating activities are performed safely and in compliance with WHS requirements
- Maintain environmental controls, containment systems and regulatory compliance
- Conduct inspections, audits and quality reviews of completed works
- Ensure coating systems are applied in accordance with technical specifications and client requirements
- Promote a proactive safety culture through visible leadership and engagement
Capability & Commercial Support
- Strengthen the organisation's internal blast and paint capability and reduce reliance on contractors
- Support project teams with job scoping, labour planning and estimating activities
- Assist in assessing labour, material, equipment and access requirements for project quotations
- Identify opportunities to expand blast and paint services within the dockyard and broader marine industry
- Contribute to operational improvement initiatives and long-term business growth strategies
Qualifications and Requirements
- Relevant trade qualification highly regarded
- Demonstrated experience in a Blast & Paint Superintendent, Supervisor or similar leadership role
- NACE, ACA, ICorr or other coating inspection qualifications highly regarded
- Strong background in abrasive blasting, protective coatings and surface preparation activities
- Experience within marine, shipbuilding, Defence, industrial maintenance, heavy industry or infrastructure environments
- Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop operational workforces
- Strong understanding of coating specifications, quality standards and corrosion protection systems
- Experience coordinating labour, equipment and subcontractors across multiple projects
- Sound knowledge of WHS legislation, environmental controls and high-risk work activities
- Experience with project planning, scheduling and resource management
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings and project documentation
- White Card essential
- Current Driver's Licence
