What you'll be doing
The Child and Family Health Nurse/ Midwife is an integral part of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team, providing nursing care to families/carers of the health service.
The role utilises evidence-based knowledge and skills to monitor the growth, development and health of the child (0 to 5 years of age) within the context of the family, and to provide a co-ordinated family centred approach, advice, health information, first line counselling (where appropriate) and referral to relevant support services.
About You
You present yourself as a confident, capable clinician who brings both professional credibility and a deeply grounded, family‑centred approach to your work. You hold current registration with the Nurses & Midwives Board of Australia and postgraduate qualifications in child and family health nursing, positioning you as someone who understands the complexities of supporting families with children aged 0–5 in a community setting. You’re either already an Authorised Nurse Immuniser or ready to complete this within your first six months, showing your commitment to safe, comprehensive care.
You demonstrate strong clinical judgement, able to assess, prioritise and respond to concerns with a calm, evidence‑based approach that keeps the wellbeing of infants, children and their families at the centre. Your communication style is clear, compassionate and adaptable, whether you’re documenting care, using digital systems, or engaging with families and colleagues. You work confidently within multidisciplinary teams, coordinating care that is outcome‑focused and responsive to changing needs.
You understand the challenges faced by clients with complex circumstances and navigate these with sensitivity and professionalism. You recognise and act on safety concerns, including situations where an infant or child may be at risk of significant harm, and you respond with the urgency and responsibility these moments require. With an unrestricted NSW driver’s licence, you’re ready to support families across the community, bringing your expertise directly to where it’s needed most.
