What You'll Be Doing
Working within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), you will lead the design, development and delivery of data engineering solutions that improve how data is stored, integrated, transformed, analysed and moved across complex, mission critical environments. This is an expert level role at SFIA Level 6, with responsibility for shaping organisational policies, standards and design patterns that influence how data is engineered across the agency.
You will work across the full data lifecycle, from analysing complex problems through to building, deploying and maintaining pipelines, analytical environments and data stores. The role also calls for strategic advice on current and future state models, data interoperability, and emerging technologies including AI based data integration.
Data Engineering and Pipelines
- Build, maintain and deploy data pipelines, analytical environments and data stores that move and transform data across complex environments
- Use and develop tools and techniques to test data engineering solutions and achieve business outcomes
- Conduct diagnostic procedures to identify system vulnerabilities and opportunities for improvement
Data Modelling and Strategic Advice
- Provide expert advice on requirements, current and future state models, and solutions that improve data interoperability, storage, analysis and transmission
- Lead the application of analysis, design and modelling techniques to establish, modify and maintain enterprise data structures
- Manage the iteration, review and maintenance of data requirements and data models
Governance and Standards
- Lead the selection and development of data engineering methods, tools and techniques
- Develop organisational policies, standards and guidelines for the secure operation of data services and products
- Apply metadata frameworks and govern data engineering design patterns and practices
Innovation and Improvement
- Identify process improvements across data systems, tools and products and advise leaders driving those changes
- Stay across new trends and innovations, including AI based integration technologies, and advise on their application
- Promote the reuse and ongoing value of organisational data assets in line with legislation and guidelines
What You'll Bring
The Essentials
- You must hold a current PV security clearance and be an Australian citizen to be considered for this role
- Demonstrated experience as a Data Engineer operating at SFIA Level 6, leading the selection and development of data engineering methods, tools and techniques on strategic, large and complex programmes
- Strong data modelling and design capability at SFIA Level 5, including setting standards, advising on application, and managing enterprise data requirements
- Hands on experience writing custom scripts and code to integrate data, with a working understanding of AI based integration technologies
- Degree in Computer Science, IT or a related discipline, with demonstrated experience in analytics software
