Not all network engineering roles are created equal. This one puts you inside one of Australia's most consequential network environments. Working within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), you will be embedded in a specialist network engineering team where availability, reliability and security are non negotiable. You will investigate complex network problems, design and implement change, and automate routine activity across Defence and industry data, voice and audio environments. Remote + Orro

What You'll Be Doing

This role sits within ASD's network engineering function in Adelaide, contributing to the operation and continuous improvement of complex Defence networks. You will work across data, voice and audio environments, applying knowledge of Defence and industry technologies to investigate, design, implement and automate. The work is technical, varied and consequential, with exposure to senior technical stakeholders, established Defence procedures and a clear focus on performance, availability and security.

Network Operations and Problem Resolution

  • Investigate, diagnose and resolve network issues across data, voice and audio environments
  • Provide advice on preventative strategies and identify alternative courses of action where standard remedies are insufficient
  • Apply knowledge of Defence and industry networking devices and procedures to explain and capitalise on current capabilities

Design, Implementation and Maintenance

  • Design and implement network changes and maintenance routines in line with agreed standards
  • Deliver installation, removal, maintenance and acceptance of new and updated network components, services and applications
  • Carry out agreed network and system software maintenance tasks to documented procedures

Performance, Availability and Reporting

  • Monitor, measure, optimise and report on network load, performance and security
  • Contribute to availability management activities and ensure services and components meet agreed performance targets and service levels
  • Implement and test disaster recovery arrangements and document recovery procedures

Automation and Continuous Improvement

  • Automate routine networking tasks using standard tools and scripting
  • Provide reports and proposals for improvement to specialists, users and managers

What You'll Bring

The Essentials

  • You must hold a current PV security clearance and be an Australian citizen to be considered for this role
  • A degree in Computer Science, IT or a related discipline, or 3+ years of equivalent professional networking experience
  • Solid grounding in network fundamentals including protocols, architectures, devices and topologies
  • Hands on experience investigating, diagnosing and resolving complex network issues in enterprise or mission critical environments
  • Experience designing and implementing network changes, maintenance routines and component installations to documented standards
