We are looking for our next quality professional to join the team at Lenah Valley!
The role
The Lenah Valley site, approximately 15 minutes from the Hobart CBD, manufactures more than 50 milk, milk based and cream products using fresh Tasmanian milk. With around 50 employees and annual production of approximately 33 million litres, the site offers the scale of a regulated manufacturing operation alongside the lifestyle benefits of living in Hobart, including short commutes, amazing food and strong cultural identity.
We are looking for a new Quality Specialist (Environmental and Sanitation) to join our small quality team! The purpose of this role is to drive, maintain, coordinate and monitor the day-to-day laboratory functions and ensure compliance to product specifications. Day to day, this role will have a focus on training & coaching staff on systems and procedures to ensure best outcomes. Being a strong communicator and influencing others is essential. This is not a lab-based role, you will already be an expert in quality standards, how to interpret them, and have the skills to teach others. Some experience in the environmental area and high hygiene workspaces would be a bonus.
The Quality Specialist works on site Monday to Friday during normal site operating hours.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, implement and monitor the Laboratory Quality System & GLP standards, ensuring adherence to site, Bega Group and customer requirements, while supporting site hygiene plans and Food Safety, Quality & Environment monitoring programs.
- Manage, update and maintain the laboratory document control system through Intelex, ensuring accurate records and compliance with quality and testing requirements.
- Complete all reporting on time and provide relevant information to senior leaders, including results from site sampling, testing and verification activities (e.g. pathogens, shelf-life, swabbing, trade waste).
- Conduct GMP & internal audits as per schedule and support verification of site hygiene, food safety and environmental monitoring activities.
- Coordinate site laboratory equipment servicing, maintenance and calibration programs to support ongoing testing, sampling and quality assurance activities.
About you
- Tertiary qualification in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemical engineering or related field
- Ability to engage with all levels of the business, from leadership to operational staff
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including influencing skills & coaching
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis and preparation of detailed reports
- Strong knowledge of HACCP/GMP/GLP/BRC standards
