Primary objective
Provide Medical Imaging Services to Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals and to those from Community Health Centres and Private
Practitioners as requested and to contribute to the continual improvement of the Medical Imaging Service.
Improvement
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide quality diagnostic medical imaging services, including participation in the shift and on- call roster on a rotating basis, to ensure
a 24 hour medical imaging coverage of RDPH.
2. Adhere to the radiation safety protection plan of the department to ensure minimum radiation exposure of patients and staff.
3. Provide extensive experience in all facets of medical imaging and actively participate in supervision, mentorship and training of
university students, remote operator trainees and junior staff.
4. Recognise and adequately demonstrate complex or unusual pathology, variants or artefacts
5. Liaise with Medical Officers, Radiologists and the health care team to ascertain relevant clinical history and diagnostic objectives to
ensure that the most appropriate and highest quality imaging is performed
6. Perform the required the administrative duties for imaging procedures, ensuring accurate completion of necessary paperwork,
computer details and PACS image transfer and storage.
7. Undertake relief duties to other hospitals, as required, to ensure that other TEHS sites are able to provide a medical imaging service at
all times.
8. Adhere to the RDPH radiation safety protection plan to ensure minimum radiation exposure of patients and staff.
9. Follow defined service quality standards, infection control protocols and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures
to ensure a high quality service and safe workplace for staff and patients.
10. Undergo regular self-evaluation and performance appraisal in pursuit of continuing quality
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree in Medical Radiation Science or equivalent from a registered University which allows eligibility for registration as a Medical
Radiation Practitioner with the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia AND/OR Recognised Medical Ultrasound qualification
which confers eligibility for registration with the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Register (ASAR).
2. Demonstrated expertise in the various fields of Sonography - Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Small Parts, Vascular, Musculo-Skeletal and
Interventional AND/OR Proven High Level experience in the various fields of Radiography; (General Radiography, Theatre and Mobile
Work, Trauma and Accident and Emergency Radiography) with proven ability to work as a sole practitioner.
3. Ability to perform all advanced ultrasound examinations independently and to a high standard in the designated timeframes for RDPH.
4. Ability to provide sound knowledge of all facets of Sonography/Medical Imaging and actively participate in the supervision, mentorship
and training of junior medical imaging professionals and students.
5. Ability to work as a senior member of a team, demonstrate leadership skills and communicate clearly with colleagues and other health
service staff.
6. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with patients from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
