Primary objective

To perform a variety of time critical cleaning tasks in accordance with infection control, work health and safety (WHS), and

environmental cleaning standards at the Lorraine Brennan Centre.

Context statement

LBC is a 71 bed Medi-hotel located on the Royal Darwin Hospital campus. The facility accommodates patients and escorts from

different communities in NT who may be admitted or discharged. The support worker contributes to keeping the facility clean and

maintained, transportation of clients for appointments and ensure the needs of clients are met while at the facility.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide high quality cleaning services to clinical and non-clinical areas, and clinical equipment (at times still in use by patients),

according to RDPH NT Health Policy and Procedures.

2. Follow defined service quality standards, infection control, mandated policy, procedures and guidelines specific to both

nonclinical and clinical cleaning and work health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken.

3. Exercise good communication and interpersonal skills with supervisors, clinicians and clients and support a collaborative team

environment

4. Provide support and assistance to clientele of Lorraine Brennan Centre

5. Participate in Lorraine Brennan Centre team meetings, staff education, performance development programs and ensure

currency of essential training requirements

6. Foster a positive workplace culture in line with NT Health Organisational Culture Charter

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated extensive cleaning experience in an acute healthcare environment or similar

2. Demonstrated understanding of healthcare infection control and hygiene standards, and the Work Health and Safety legislation

3. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills

4. Demonstrated ability to work well with others and a commitment to teamwork in a diverse cultural and multi-disciplinary

environment

5. Capability to undertake cleaning duties including the operation of industrial cleaning equipment, safe handling of chemicals and

transportation of waste

6. Demonstrated capacity to organise and prioritise workloads and to complete delegated activities with minimal supervision

7. Preparedness and capacity to work a rotating roster of shifts; 24-hour, 7 day a week roster consisting of a mixture of morning,

evening and nights

8. Hold a current C class Northern Territory drivers licence

Desirable

1. Certificate II or III in Cleaning Operations

2. Previous experience dealing with the public and/or working in a health care environment.
