Senior Strategic Planner

  • Full-Time permanent position
  • $51.42 per hour + superannuation

Play a key role in planning for Wodonga’s future by leading strategic planning projects that guide how our city grows and develops. As Senior Strategic Planner, you’ll deliver complex planning initiatives including growth area planning, land rezoning, planning scheme amendments and infrastructure planning that support sustainable development and long-term community outcomes. Working across Council, government agencies, developers and the community, you'll help create a city that is well-connected, resilient and ready for future growth.

You'll contribute to important planning decisions, influence the future development of Wodonga and help deliver integrated land use, housing, infrastructure and economic development outcomes that benefit the community for years to come.

Key Aspects Of The Role

  • Lead strategic planning projects that shape Wodonga’s future Take ownership of complex planning projects that influence how the city grows and develops. From growth area planning and land rezoning to structure plans and planning scheme amendments, the role works across the full project lifecycle to deliver planning outcomes that support sustainable growth, housing supply, infrastructure coordination and community wellbeing.
  • Develop planning strategies and provide expert advice Prepare and implement strategic planning studies, policies and frameworks that guide future land use and development decisions. The position provides specialist advice to Councillors, Executive, internal stakeholders and external partners on complex planning matters, helping Council make informed decisions that balance economic, environmental and community priorities.
  • Coordinate growth planning, infrastructure funding and project delivery Manage the delivery of strategic planning projects by coordinating consultants, budgets, timelines and reporting requirements. The role also leads Development Contribution Plans and Planning Agreements, helping secure funding for infrastructure required to support future development while ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and in accordance with legislative and governance requirements.
  • Build partnerships and engage with the community Work closely with developers, landowners, government agencies, service authorities, community groups and internal teams to achieve integrated planning outcomes. The role facilitates consultation activities, presents reports and recommendations, responds to stakeholder enquiries and builds strong working relationships that support transparent decision-making and successful project outcomes

What We’re Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in planning, environmental management or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic and/or statutory planning, with knowledge of Victorian planning legislation, planning schemes and development processes.
  • Experience managing complex projects, consultants and competing priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, strategies, submissions and presentations for a range of audiences.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with government agencies, developers, community members and multidisciplinary teams.
  • A collaborative and solutions-focused approach, supported by sound judgement, initiative and a commitment to delivering outcomes that contribute to Wodonga's long-term growth and liveability.
