The Role
Reporting into the Area Manager, the Senior Store Manager is responsible for the end-to-end leadership and operational performance of a large-format retail store. This is a highly visible leadership role where you will oversee a significant team across multiple functions, ensuring the delivery of a safe, high-performing and customer-focused environment. You will lead from the front, driving sales growth, elevating the customer experience, and embedding a strong culture centred around team development, operational discipline and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
You will be accountable for the overall success of the store, including:
- Leading and inspiring a large, multi-layered team to deliver an exceptional customer experience
- Driving sales, profitability and operational performance across a high-volume retail environment
- Ensuring the store is consistently safe, full, clean and presented to the highest standards
- Building and embedding a strong safety-first culture, with a clear focus on prevention and accountability
- Developing and coaching your leadership team, with a strong emphasis on succession planning and capability uplift
- Managing workforce planning, rostering and resource allocation to optimise productivity
- Executing commercial strategies to maximise sales opportunities, stock flow and range availability
- Engaging with the local market and community to enhance brand presence and customer loyalty
Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Proven experience in a senior retail leadership role, ideally within a large-format or high-volume environment
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop large teams, including multi-level leadership structures
- Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering sales and profit growth
- A passion for delivering exceptional customer service and in-store experience
- Experience in operational management, including rostering, stock control and process optimisation
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence, coach and motivate others
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- A commitment to workplace health and safety, with the ability to lead a positive safety culture
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a continuous improvement approach
