About The Role
The Network Engineer JP9101 Level 3 provides specialist communications and network engineering support across the design, integration, verification, and delivery of EDHFCS networking capabilities.
The role focuses on secure voice, video, and data communications systems, including converged communications environments operating across Defence secure network architectures. The successful candidate will work closely with the Deputy Engineering Manager JP9101 and contribute to technical delivery, engineering assurance activities, contractor oversight, and capability integration in accordance with Defence standards and IC3SPO engineering processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform network engineering activities across voice, video, and data communications systems within converged Defence environments.
- Provide specialist engineering advice relating to telecommunications, data communications, and Defence network architectures.
- Support the development and integration of secure and resilient Defence networking solutions across LAN, WAN, and associated environments.
- Contribute to capability development and concept development activities associated with EDHFCS communications network systems.
- Conduct requirements analysis, requirements development, and systems allocation activities for communications and network capabilities.
- Ensure network requirements remain traceable to operational use cases and system-level capability requirements.
- Support network architecture development and detailed engineering design activities.
- Review technical design documentation and specialist network engineering reports.
- Develop and review engineering artefacts in accordance with Defence engineering governance requirements.
- Ensure engineering documentation complies with Defence, contractual, and IC3SPO quality standards.
- Provide engineering support throughout the entire project lifecycle, including integration, verification, and sustainment activities.
- Assist in identifying and managing technical risks, network performance concerns, and engineering issues.
- Support cybersecurity, network hardening, and secure communications considerations in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Review contractor deliverables relating to communications and network engineering outcomes.
- Engage with Defence stakeholders, industry partners, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to support integration objectives.
- Participate in engineering reviews, technical working groups, and design review activities.
- Perform additional tasks as directed.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Chartered Professional Engineer status with a recognised professional engineering body (such as Engineers Australia), or the ability to attain chartered status.
- Tertiary qualifications in Network Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience, including the ability to coach and guide technical teams.
- Experience working with the ASDEFCON contracting framework.
Desirable Experience
- Relevant industry certifications such as CCNE or equivalent.
- Experience working within Defence Capability Projects and/or CASG environments.
- Understanding of Defence operational, technical, and logistical capability delivery requirements.
- Knowledge of applicable Defence policies, frameworks, and legislation.
- Experience managing cross-functional engineering teams across multiple technical disciplines.
