About The Team

Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that support Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience.

About The Role

Our Coles 360, Loyalty and Customer team is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead multiple engineering squads and help deliver exceptional customer and business outcomes. You will be responsible for building high-performing teams, fostering an engineering culture of ownership and accountability, and enabling squads to deliver reliable, scalable and secure solutions. Working closely with Product, Architecture, Principal Engineers and other stakeholders, you will help shape delivery plans, technical direction and team capability across the portfolio.

Responsiblities

  • Lead and manage 2-3 engineering squads, supporting the delivery of solutions aligned to Coles' business objectives and technology strategy
  • Build, mentor and develop engineers and technical leads, creating a high-performing and inclusive team culture
  • Partner with Product, Architecture and Engineering stakeholders to define roadmaps, priorities and delivery outcomes
  • Create an environment that empowers teams to take ownership of their services through a "you build it, you own it" mindset
  • Drive engineering excellence through modern software engineering practices, continuous improvement and operational discipline
  • Support the delivery of product initiatives by identifying and removing organisational, technical and delivery impediments
  • Ensure solutions are delivered in alignment with architecture, security, reliability and operational standards
  • Act as a service custodian for platforms and services owned by your squads, ensuring availability, performance and operational excellence
  • Lead incident management, problem resolution and continuous improvement activities across your teams
  • Manage team capacity, workforce planning, recruitment and career development activities
  • Foster strong collaboration between engineering teams and business stakeholders to deliver customer-focused outcomes
  • Be accountable for individual and team compliance with company values, policies and procedures, including the Coles Code of Conduct and all applicable laws and regulations

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience leading software engineering teams in complex technology environments
  • 8 years' experience delivering software solutions within agile product development teams
  • Experience leading multiple teams or large-scale technology initiatives
  • Strong understanding of software engineering practices, system design and cloud-native technologies
  • Experience with Java, .NET or similar modern technology stacks
  • Experience operating and supporting services in large-scale, customer-facing environments
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring and developing engineers and technical leaders
  • Strong understanding of agile delivery methodologies and continuous improvement practices
  • Experience managing operational support, incident response and service reliability
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline
  • Exposure or interests in loyalty, commerce or marketing platforms
