Project Manager (Software Development)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of a significant software development initiative within a large and complex government environment. This role will be responsible for overseeing the replacement of a critical business application, ensuring successful delivery from project initiation through to implementation.

You will work closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors and executive leadership to manage project scope, timelines, budgets, risks and outcomes. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned ICT Project Manager who thrives in complex delivery environments and has a strong background in software development and digital transformation projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, scoping and delivery of a major software development project, ensuring alignment with business objectives and stakeholder expectations.
  • Manage project resources, schedules, budgets and deliverables to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Coordinate project activities across technical teams, business units and external vendors.
  • Identify, assess and manage project risks, issues and dependencies, implementing effective mitigation strategies where required.
  • Monitor project progress, track milestones and ensure delivery remains on schedule and within budget.
  • Prepare and present project status reports, executive briefings and governance documentation.
  • Escalate project risks, issues and deviations through appropriate governance channels.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement and maintain strong working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Ensure contractual obligations, project controls and governance requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Apply project management methodologies, tools and best practices to support successful delivery outcomes.
  • Contribute to procurement activities, project planning workshops and other project-related initiatives as required.

Highly Desirable Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience delivering ICT software development and digital transformation projects within large and complex organisations.
  • PRINCE2, MSP, Agile certification, or equivalent project management qualifications.
  • Minimum seven years' experience in project or programme management roles.
  • Strong experience using project management tools including Microsoft Project, Jira and Confluence.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders, competing priorities and complex delivery environments.
  • Experience preparing executive briefings, business cases, procurement documentation and presentations.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience delivering projects within government or highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory or policy-driven ICT solutions.
  • Experience working across software development lifecycles, including Agile and hybrid delivery methodologies.
  • Experience managing third-party vendors and contractual deliverables.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for stakeholder engagement, workshops and project activities when required.
