Position Overview

With a growing team and multiple projects in the pipeline, we are currently seeking a Senior/Lead Mechanical Designer to join our Brisbane team. Reporting to the Design Manager, the role is responsible for contributing to the design and development of mechanical systems and components and related equipment for mining and bulk materials handling infrastructure.

The position will include but not be limited to:

  • Management, ownership, and coordination of mechanical design deliverables from feasibility through to detailed design
  • Detailed 3D modelling and design of mechanical elements for bulk materials handling infrastructure including conveyors, surge bins, transfer chutes, and crushing stations.
  • Development of modularised designs to improve efficiency and reuse across similar projects
  • Production of detailed general arrangement (GA), detail, and equipment layout drawings to a standard suitable for construction and procurement
  • Review and checking of drawings produced by junior team members, ensuring quality and compliance with project requirements
  • Collaboration with other engineering disciplines, structural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation to ensure effective coordination and integration of mechanical elements within the overall plant design
  • Participation in design reviews, client meetings, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings as required

Skills and Experience

  • Formal qualification in mechanical design is preferable, with 8+ years of multidisciplinary design experience in the mining, resources and heavy industry sector.
  • Experience working on greenfield and/or brownfield mining projects highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience in 3D modelling of large-scale bulk materials handling infrastructure, including overland conveyors, transfer chutes, surge bins, and primary crushing stations
  • Proficiency in Bentley MicroStation and associated 3D modelling tools (ProStructures / ProSteel highly regarded) and experience in AutoCAD Mechanical or Plant 3D an advantage.
  • Strong capability in producing detailed general arrangement (GA) drawings, fabrication drawings, and equipment layout drawings to a high standard
  • Experience in structural steelwork design and detailing, including platforms, walkways and support structures
  • Solid understanding of Australian and Industry Standards relevant to structural steel and bulk materials handling that govern mechanical design
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary project environment, coordinating with structural, civil, and process engineers
  • Experience with document management systems (Autodesk Construction Cloud Bentley ProjectWise or similar) for drawing issue and revision control
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deliverables and meet project deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with engineers, project managers, and site personnel
  • Ability to work with 3D point cloud scans
  • Demonstrated understanding of industry safety and environmental standards.
