This is a step-up opportunity at a well-regarded boutique tax and business advisory firm in Canberra — the kind of role where you stop waiting for a title change and start actually owning outcomes. If you're a strong intermediate accountant who's ready to operate at senior level, this is the environment to do it.

About the firm

A long-standing Canberra boutique with a reputation for sophisticated advice and a genuinely complex client base. Their clients include high-net-worth individuals, family groups, trusts, SMSFs, and companies — people who rely on their advisors for more than just compliance. The team is tight-knit, the partners are accessible, and the work is consistently interesting.

About the role

You'll take on a central role in delivering tax and advisory services across a defined client portfolio. From early on, you'll be the primary point of contact for clients and will supervise and mentor junior and offshore team members — this isn't a role where you're doing someone else's work.

Key responsibilities:

  • Preparing and reviewing tax returns, financial statements, and compliance work
  • Managing a portfolio of clients as their primary relationship contact
  • Identifying tax planning opportunities and contributing to advisory engagements
  • Supervising, reviewing, and mentoring junior accountants and offshore staff
  • Collaborating with partners on complex matters and client deliverables
  • Managing workflow and deadlines across your team

About you

You have solid public practice experience and you're ready for more. You're technically strong, you communicate well with clients, and you take ownership of your work rather than waiting to be directed.

  • 3–5 years in public practice (tax and business services)
  • Strong technical knowledge across income tax, CGT, and entity structures
  • CA or CPA qualified, or near completionExperience with complex clients — trusts, companies, family groups, SMSFs
  • Confident communicator who can translate technical concepts for clients
  • Some exposure to supervising or reviewing junior staff is an advantage
