Director of Wellbeing & Inclusion

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Wellbeing and Inclusion will oversee and be responsible for the leadership of Student Safety, Behaviour, Rewards, Sanctions, Attendance, Uniform and Wellbeing.

This is a full-time position for a fixed term period of five (5) years, with a commencement date in January 2027.

Applicants should hold current VIT registration and undertake classroom teaching or equivalent responsibilities up to 0.50 FTE as part of the role. Relevant qualifications and professional registration (where applicable) in counselling, wellbeing, psychology or a related field is preferable as the support (and provision) of these services forms part of the role.

Duties and Responsibilities

Students, Community, Curricula, Programs and Ethos

  • As the thought leader for Wellbeing in the College, innovate, develop, evaluate and manage wellbeing structures, systems, processes and curricula.
  • Lead and evaluate the student behaviour, rewards, sanctions and attendance practices across the College.
  • Develop the collection and use of data to inform best practice.
  • Lead parent and community wellbeing education and support.
  • Oversee and implement best practice in wellbeing policies and reporting.
  • Assist with the enrolment of new students and families as required.
  • Lead wellbeing and inclusion compliance with government strategies and regulators, in particular VRQA, NCCDS, ACECQA and the VIT.
  • Support the Heads of School and the Principal in the management of parental queries.
  • Be the ‘port of call’ to support sub-schools in the leadership of complex wellbeing and behavioural situations.

Staff, Departments and Operations

  • Oversee and implement best practice in wellbeing professional development.
  • Oversee the work of Student Services and to support the Head of Student Services to recruit and deploy psychologists, specialist teachers and learning support aides as appropriate.
  • Chair the Child Safety and Wellbeing Committees, ensure best-practice and excellence in both policy and operations and support risk and emergency management planning and implementation.
  • Line-manage the Head of Student Services and ensure best-practice and excellence in policy and operations of student services, psychology/counselling provision, NCCDS compliance and case management.
  • Line-manage the health service of the College and ensure best-practice and excellence in policy and operations.
  • Line management responsibility for designated staff.
  • Assist with the appointment, induction and appraisal of staff.
  • Oversee probationary and performance reviews.
  • Undertake classroom teaching (up to 0.5 FTE).
  • Undertake duties and responsibilities as directed by the Principal or delegate.

Role Requirements

  • Current VIT registration (preferred).
  • Undergraduate qualification in Education.
  • Post-graduate qualification in education will be viewed favourably.
  • Experience as a Head of School, Year Coordinator and/or Wellbeing lead.
  • A proven interest in best practice in wellbeing and inclusion.
  • Outstanding communicator and teacher, highly organised and efficient.
  • Outstanding relationships with students and ability to challenge and support as required.
  • A clear vision on managing people and programs.
  • Willingness and ability to attend and at times lead events and meetings outside school hours.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful wellbeing and inclusion programs at both strategic and operational level.
  • Demonstrated relationship management skills with stakeholders.
  • Holds child safety as central and non-negotiable.
  • The ability to mentor, lead and grow your team’s outcomes.
  • The ability to initiate, cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships with supporters and diverse personalities.
  • Is a strong practitioner of teaching and inclusion.
