The Role

As a Treatment Plant Project Operator, you’ll play a key role in keeping our treatment plant assets running safely, reliably and efficiently. You’ll provide operational and technical expertise to support the planning, delivery and commissioning of projects that improve asset performance and strengthen network reliability.

Working closely with operations, asset planning and project delivery teams, you’ll help ensure operational needs, risks and practical site considerations are built into project decisions from start to finish.

This is a hands-on role that combines project involvement with operational support. When needed, you’ll also assist the Treatment Plant team with day-to-day operational activities.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Readiness - Provide operational input throughout project initiation, design, and delivery phases, including participation in design reviews, HAZOP, CHAIR, and Safety in Design workshops. Review project documentation to ensure safety, maintainability, and asset integration requirements are met, and coordinate with plant personnel to manage operational impacts during construction and commissioning.
  • OCCPs, live asset interfaces and shutdowns - Support commissioning and handover activities by witnessing testing, validating operational readiness and performance outcomes, and ensuring operational systems, documentation, asset data, and training requirements are complete. Promote safe design, construction, and commissioning practices, support SIMOPS management, assist with defect resolution and post-handover activities, and provide operational feedback to project and planning teams.
  • Operational Support - Support day-to-day plant operations through SCADA monitoring, inspections, sampling and testing activities, while assisting with fault response, emergency operations, and the maintenance of operational records, data, and reporting.

What we’re Looking for

  • Experience in operational, environmental or engineering roles within water and/or wastewater treatment environments
  • Sound understanding of industrial processes and associated mechanical and electrical systems
  • Strong field-based operational knowledge, with the ability to interpret data from instruments, analysers, and monitoring systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in equipment and process troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements, with the ability to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Confidence using operational technology systems, including SCADA, GIS, and asset management systems (e.g. Maximo), with the ability to extract, analyse, and interpret data.
  • Certificate III or higher in Water Industry Operations, or a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering l Engineering
  • Current and valid Victorian Driver Licence.
