Established in 1977, Rapid Haulage has grown from a single vehicle operation into a diversified logistics business operating a fleet of more than 100 vehicles, delivering transport, warehousing, distribution and refrigerated logistics solutions across local, interstate and international markets. The business has built its reputation on reliability, service excellence, operational capability and long-standing customer relationships.

As the business continues its growth journey, we are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Chief Operating Officer to join the executive leadership team.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Managing Director and working closely with the executive leadership team, the COO provides strategic and operational leadership across transport, wharf cartage, warehousing, refrigerated logistics and fleet operations.

This role will play a critical part in shaping the future of the business by driving operational performance, enhancing capability, strengthening compliance and safety outcomes, and delivering sustainable growth.

The successful candidate will balance strategic leadership with hands-on operational excellence and will be comfortable working within a high-performing family-owned business environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all transport, warehousing and operational activities across the business
• Drive fleet utilisation, operational efficiency and profitability
• Foster a culture of safety, compliance and accountability
• Lead and develop operational leaders and teams
• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
• Support strategic planning and business growth objectives
• Maintain strong customer, supplier and stakeholder relationships
• Deliver operational excellence while preserving the values and culture of the business

About You

You are a proven operational leader with extensive experience in transport, wharf cartage, logistics, warehousing, import and export, distribution or heavy vehicle operations.

• Strong understanding of fleet management and heavy vehicle compliance
• Demonstrated success improving operational performance and profitability

• The ability to build trusted relationships across customers, teams and stakeholders

Experience within a family-owned or privately-held business will be highly regarded.
