An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and commercially focused

Operations Director to lead and transform a national medical billing operations function. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a proven operational leader with deep expertise in medical billing, healthcare revenue cycle management, Medicare, MBS billing and private health insurance claiming. Reporting to the General Manager and forming part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will lead a team of approximately 45 staff across multiple operational functions and locations, including offshore teams.

As Operations Director, you will be responsible for driving operational performance, quality, compliance, scalability and customer outcomes while supporting continued growth, technology transformation and acquisition integration initiatives. You will oversee the end-to-end medical billing operation, ensuring accurate, compliant and commercially effective billing outcomes for specialist medical practices and healthcare providers across a diverse range of specialties and clinical settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all medical billing operations across multiple teams, service lines and locations.
  • Oversee end-to-end billing workflows including claims processing, reconciliation, collections and reporting.
  • Drive service consistency, operational efficiency and scalable delivery models.
  • Manage and optimise offshore operational teams, ensuring strong performance, accountability and integration.
  • Develop and monitor operational KPIs across productivity, quality, compliance, turnaround times and customer outcomes.
  • Improve billing throughput, claim acceptance rates, collections performance and speed-to-cash.
  • Implement reporting disciplines, quality controls and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and resolve workflow bottlenecks, process inefficiencies and capability gaps.
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare, MBS billing requirements, private health insurer claiming rules and patient billing regulations.
  • Strengthen operational controls to reduce billing errors, claim rejections and revenue leakage.
  • Partner with compliance, technology and product teams to improve billing accuracy and risk management.
  • Lead private health insurer claims management, rejection resolution and patient payment collection processes.
  • Improve debtor management, outstanding revenue recovery and collections performance.
  • Build effective relationships with key payer organisations and stakeholders.
  • Lead, mentor and develop team leaders, supervisors and operational staff.
  • Drive a high-performance culture focused on accountability, service excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Support workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding and succession planning initiatives.
  • Play a key role in the rollout and adoption of new technology platforms and workflow solutions.
  • Partner with product and technology teams to identify automation opportunities and operational enhancements.
  • Lead change management, user adoption and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, business growth initiatives and operational transformation programs.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Bring

  • Significant leadership experience within medical billing, healthcare revenue cycle management, claims processing or medical payments operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian medical billing, Medicare, MBS billing, private health insurance claiming and patient billing processes.
  • Experience leading large operational teams in high-volume, process-driven environments.
  • Proven success implementing KPIs, performance frameworks and operational reporting disciplines.
  • Demonstrated capability in process improvement, workflow redesign, operational excellence and change management.
  • Experience supporting technology implementations and operational transformation projects.
  • Strong commercial acumen with an ability to balance service delivery, compliance, revenue outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience within healthcare technology, specialist practice management, revenue cycle management (RCM) or healthcare services organisations will be highly regarded.
