ABOUT THE POSITION
As Senior Keeper, Live Exhibits, you will undertake and facilitate the operation and maintenance of husbandry for Museums Victoria's live animal collection, supporting exhibition displays, programs and science communication activities. Reporting to the Manager, Live Exhibits, you will be responsible for facilitating and undertaking daily husbandry activities in accordance with established husbandry plans, while ensuring accurate collection data is maintained to support effective animal collection management.
Some of the key duties include
- Facilitating keeper staff in the delivery of daily husbandry activities and animal care programs.
- Overseeing the maintenance, presentation and refreshment of live animal displays within Melbourne Museum exhibitions.
- Supporting the operation of husbandry facilities to ensure appropriate environments and high standards of animal welfare.
- Overseeing the provision and use of food, equipment and supplies required for daily animal husbandry.
- Maintaining accurate husbandry records and contributing to research, fieldwork, education and science communication activities.
The successful applicant will have
- Demonstrated experience in the husbandry and display of live animals, particularly invertebrates, with advanced technical knowledge and skills.
- Strong understanding of live animal collection management and the ability to make informed recommendations regarding animal care and welfare.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including experience mentoring, training or supporting team members.
- Proven ability to apply scientific knowledge, problem-solving skills and sound judgement to live animal husbandry challenges.
- Experience working collaboratively across teams and stakeholders, with a strong commitment to safety, risk management and continuous improvement.
OTHER INFORMATION
This is a Full time, ongoing position. The salary on offer is a VPS2.2 Base salary of $72,189 per annum (pro rata) plus 12% superannuation.
The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).
