Primary objective
As Director Event Operations you will be responsible for the planning and delivery of Tourism and Events NT’s (TENT) core portfolio of Major
Events, ranging from cultural to music festivals to sporting and motorsport events, leading a high performing team. You will have a pivotal role
together with TENT leadership to drive the Event contribution to the Northern Territory Visitor Economy Strategy. You will be responsible for
translating the organisation’s strategy into event delivery excellence.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Work collaboratively with senior Leadership to create and drive TENT core event plans, programs and budgets. Develop capability and
accountability within the team to ensure workforce, financial management and operational plans are managed proactively and appropriately
with a whole of business approach to maximise efficiencies
2. Understand and drive best practice within the Events Division to upgrade and streamline systems and maximise efficiencies ensuring
compliance with NTG’s governance and legislative frameworks.
3. Work collaboratively with Traditional Owners and Elders to include and support First Nations involvement in NT events when and where
appropriate.
4. Drive innovation in event activation and experience aligned with core event objectives and strategic plans.
5. Work with core event partners (suppliers and content owners) to maximise opportunities and event offering.
6. Support Event Partnerships and Executive on feasibility and expertise to assist in leveraging new opportunities across the division.
7. Provide strategic advice to other staff, Advisory Committees, Ministerial and Government representatives and TENT Executive leadership as
appropriate and required.
8. Work collaboratively across TENT Divisions to leverage opportunities across the department fostering creativity and innovation in
achievements.

11. Work collaboratively with emergency management and other key operational stakeholders to provide an effective framework of operation
across all Major Events that complies with TENT and stakeholder requirements
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary and post graduate qualifications in a relevant field such as Event Management
2. A sound knowledge and understanding of the cultural appropriateness and an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures
3. Proven ability to develop and lead strong and motivated collaborative teams to deliver high quality outcomes in a climate of continual change
4. Demonstrated capacity to manage complex, concurrent and time constrained projects
5. Proven track record in delivering high profile national events with an in-depth understanding of key client needs including but not limited to
sponsors, broadcast and media
6. Demonstrated strong strategic planning, conceptual, analytical and creative skills
7. Proven track record in successful procurement, commercial negotiation and contract development
8. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate and manage intent/expectations both from internal and
external stakeholders
9. Demonstrated experience in identifying and mitigating strategic and operational risks
10. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively within both Government and Corporate
environments
11. Ability and willingness to work outside normal working hours including public holidays and weekends as and when required to support events
delivery.
Further information
It is important to note that the Director Event Operations is expected to be present and available during the bump-in, delivery and bump out
phases of the event to support the team. This will require the Director Event Operations to be able to work on-site and outside of office hours
including weekends and public holidays where required.
This role may require travel to intra and interstate locations from time to time.
