Remuneration: Stream A, Level 3 - 4: $96,765.51 - $110,927.30 per annum inclusive of superannuation & locality allowance (5% increase from July 2026)

Central Highlands Regional Council is currently seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic

Paralegal to join the Legal & Property team. You will support the team by driving reliable research, legislative compliance and administrative excellence across litigation, insurance and major council projects. Hours of work may be flexible for the right candidate.

In this busy role, you will support the organisation by:

  • Preparing and arranging for the lodgment of Court and other legal documentation as required including notices of intention to defend etc.
  • Compiling briefs of evidence and briefs for external counsel and/or expert witnesses
  • Assisting in the preparation and maintenance of an approved panel of legal providers for the Legal Team and liaising with external counsel, solicitors and experts as directed
  • Maintaining the register for all legal matters referred to the Legal Team and ensuring all documentation and correspondence is lodged, tracked and responded to within the required timeframes
  • Investigate and respond to third party claims against Council independently and where necessary, in conjunction with Councils liability insurer
  • Lodge, manage and co-ordinate all Council insurance claims (including complex disaster/major loss claims)
  • Develop and implement appropriate plans and procedures to record legislative compliance regularly and accurately across Council

  • A current driver's licence
  • Demonstrated analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including the ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, attention to detail and commitment to service standards.
