The Role
The ABC is looking for a Reporter, Rural to join our regional news team in Tamworth. This role focuses on creating engaging, high-quality rural and primary industry content for a multi-platform audience, aligned with our digital-first and audience-first strategy. You’ll work closely with editors, producers and rural reporters to deliver stories that matter to local communities while resonating nationally.

The Job
- Research, produce and present rural and primary industry stories across digital, radio and other platforms.
- Deliver content for programs including the Rural Report and Country Hour.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and share story ideas that drive audience engagement.
- Identify and create impactful local stories that can be shared across the ABC network.
- Engage with rural communities to uncover stories that reflect local perspectives and national significance.
- Contribute to emergency coverage planning and reporting when required.

About You
You are a skilled storyteller with a passion for rural and regional Australia and a strong understanding of the issues affecting primary industries.
You'll have
- Demonstrated experience in journalism or agriculture with strong editorial judgement.
- Proven ability to create engaging content across multiple platforms, including live presentation.
- Sound knowledge of rural and regional Australia, with the ability to build and maintain strong community contacts.
- Possession of a current and valid Driver’s Licence with a willingness and flexibility to travel to remote locations.
