Senior Cloud AWS Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud AWS Engineer to join a high-performing technology team delivering secure, scalable and customer-focused digital services for Queenslanders.
This role will play a key part in designing, implementing, supporting and optimising cloud-native solutions within AWS environments. You will work closely with architects, engineers, developers and operational teams to deliver robust cloud infrastructure, automation capabilities and modern platform services that enable innovation and digital transformation initiatives.
The successful candidate will bring strong AWS expertise, a proactive mindset and a passion for delivering reliable, secure and high-performing cloud solutions in a complex enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, implement and support AWS cloud infrastructure and platform services.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions to automate cloud provisioning and configuration.
- Monitor, maintain and optimise AWS environments to ensure performance, security, availability and cost efficiency.
- Implement cloud security controls, governance standards and compliance requirements across AWS platforms.
- Support the delivery of cloud migration, modernisation and transformation initiatives.
- Collaborate with architects, developers and operational teams to design scalable and resilient cloud solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex cloud infrastructure and platform issues.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures and support artefacts.
- Contribute to DevOps and automation practices, including CI/CD pipelines and deployment frameworks.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to team members and stakeholders.
- Participate in incident response, problem management and continuous improvement activities.
Highly Desirable Criteria
- Extensive experience designing, implementing and supporting enterprise AWS cloud environments.
- Strong knowledge of core AWS services including EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, Lambda, ECS/EKS and networking services.
- Demonstrated experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
- Strong understanding of cloud security principles, identity management, governance and compliance frameworks.
- Experience implementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using tools such as PowerShell, Python, Bash or similar.
- Experience supporting highly available, secure and scalable cloud platforms.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work across both technical and non-technical teams.
Desirable Criteria
- AWS certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS SysOps Administrator or AWS DevOps Engineer.
- Experience working within government, regulated or large enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with monitoring, observability and cloud cost optimisation practices.
- Familiarity with Agile, Scrum or DevOps delivery methodologies.
- Experience supporting digital transformation, cloud migration or platform modernisation initiatives.
