Primary objective

Anaesthetic Registrar to provide services to Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals (under Specialist Supervision).

Context statement

RDPH is the principal tertiary hospital within the region, and the department is accredited for 156 weeks of Anaesthesia

training by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA).

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provision of anaesthesia, acute pain, and peri-operative medicine services to Top End Region hospitals (primarily Royal

Darwin and Palmerston Regional Hospitals)

2. Provide emergency after-hours care and consultancy service on a roster basis, supported by a Specialist Anaesthetist

3. Participate in education activities within the Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine.

4. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency and General registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

2. Completed 104 weeks of pre-vocational medical education and training with at least 52 weeks of experience in areas of

practice other than clinical anaesthesia, intensive care medicine, and pain medicine.

3. Demonstrated interpersonal, leadership, oral and written communication skills and to interact positively in a cross-cultural

work environment.

4. Experience in Clinical Anaesthesia

Desirable

1. Experience or commitment to health care delivery in the Northern Territory

2. Experience working in and/or commitment to Regional/Rural settings.

3. Experience working in a clinical environment with First Nations Peoples

4. Completion of the ANZCA Primary Exam or equivalent
