We're hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer for the R&D group of an Adelaide-based aerospace and defence company - the team that turns ideas into hardware. This isn't a detailing or drawing-office seat, and it isn't a management role. It's for the engineer who generates the concept, then builds it.

If you're happiest at the front of the development cycle, sketching the idea, prototyping it on the bench, iterating until it works, then read on.

What you'll do

• Own the earliest stage of product development - from concept generation through to working prototype.
• Get hands-on: build, test, break, refine. This is a make-it-real environment, not a CAD-only one.
• Work self-directed, without waiting for a brief. You'll be trusted to find the problem worth solving and run at it.
• Collaborate across a small, fast-moving engineering team where your output goes straight onto the platform.

What we're looking for

• Solid experience at the concept / early-stage design end of mechanical engineering - you create the concept, you don't just draw it up.
• Genuine hands-on prototyping and fabrication ability - comfortable in the workshop, not just at the screen.
• Strong SOLIDWORKS.
• A self-starting, idea-generating temperament - you thrive on ambiguity and ownership.

Nice to have

• Understanding of manufacturing processes - metalwork, plastic injection moulding, composites.
• Exposure to aerospace, UAV or defence programs (welcomed, not essential - we care more about how you build than where you've built).
• A portfolio of build/prototype work.

• Based in Adelaide, or willing to relocate - relocation allowance provided.
