Hiring: Data Architect / Information Model Lead

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect / Information Model Lead to support a significant Australian Government digital transformation initiative focused on the development of a Maritime Single Window (MSW) capability.

This role will be responsible for leading the design and development of enterprise information models, logical data architectures, data standards, and harmonised data structures that enable seamless information exchange across multiple government agencies and maritime stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of conceptual and logical data models, information models, and associated schemas.

• Translate business and regulatory requirements into data entities, relationships, attributes, business rules, and constraints.

• Develop and maintain data reference models, metadata repositories, data dictionaries, mapping specifications, and supporting architecture artefacts.

• Drive data harmonisation initiatives, including reference data management, controlled vocabularies, code sets, and domain definitions.

• Map regulatory reporting requirements and data elements across agencies, ensuring alignment with national and international standards.

• Design structured data exchange models and integration specifications to support interoperability between systems.

• Assess data quality, identify risks and gaps, and recommend remediation strategies.

• Support data governance, metadata management, lineage, traceability, and information management practices.

• Collaborate with business stakeholders, SMEs, architects, and cross-government working groups to deliver endorsed data architecture outcomes.

Essential Skills & Experience

Extensive experience in Data Architecture and Data Modelling.

Strong expertise in conceptual and logical data modelling for complex business and regulatory environments.

Proven ability to translate business and regulatory requirements into structured data models.

Experience developing data reference models, data dictionaries, metadata frameworks, and mapping specifications.

Strong understanding of data harmonisation, reference data management, and enterprise data standards.

Experience defining business rules, data relationships, constraints, and validation requirements.

Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Desirable Experience

Database Design and Data Warehouse Architecture.

Systems Design and Integration Architecture.

Enterprise Data Governance and Information Management.

Government, regulatory, maritime, transport, logistics, border management, or compliance-focused environments.
