Primary Care Veterinary Nurse Team Leader (Maximum term contract until October 2027 to cover parental leave)

The Lost Dogs’ Home Vet Hospital (formerly Frank Samways Veterinary Clinic) is a modern, purpose-built clinic, providing full veterinary services to the public, adopters, and foster carers of The Lost Dogs’ Home, with all proceeds of the clinic going directly back into helping the shelter animals.
About the role
This role is an opportunity for an experienced and confident leader to shape the direction, culture, and standards of our growing clinic. As a modern, purpose‑built facility supporting both privately owned pets and animals from The Lost Dogs’ Home, we rely on a Nurse Team Leader who can drive high‑quality care, support a fast‑paced environment, and inspire a cohesive, high‑performing nursing team. We are seeking a Veterinary Nurse Team Leader who is ready to take ownership, elevate our service delivery, and play a pivotal role in the continued development of our hospital.
Key responsibilities include
- Daily management of nursing team including training, nurse roles and break times and assisting with recruitment, performance management, and rostering.
- Organise the surgery schedule for both private and stray surgeries through the vet hospital.
- Assist with general nursing with duties when required including surgery, ward and consultation shifts
- Consumables Stock control and weekly ordering
- Facilitate regular nurse meetings and attend any operations team meetings.
- Assist with administrative work including but not limited to billing of non-routine procedures, checking and finalising internal invoices, drafting procedures and protocols.
- To perform all areas of the role, including nursing skills and administrative duties thoroughly and to a high standard of care, setting a strong example to their direct reports
About you
We are looking for an experienced veterinary nurse to lead and manage a team of ten dedicated veterinary nurses, a natural leader to cultivate a good working environment. We are looking for someone who understands and promotes our values and is passionate about patient care and maintaining high standards of service.
The successful applicant will
- Have significant experience working as a Veterinary Nurse
- Leadership experience in a similar role (desirable)
- Possess a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (essential)
- Have excellent time management and organisational skills
- Be a proven team player, with the ability to show initiative in a fast-paced environment
- The ability to motivate and lead a team to high standards
- Flexibility to meet changing business needs and priorities
