Remuneration: 64364.88 - 66830.31 full time equivalent base salary range (+12% super + 17.5% leave loading and salary packaging)

Hours Per Week: up to 5.5. Option to work alternate weekends, comprising: 6 hours on Saturday 5 hours on Sunday Every second weekend.

Newborn Hearing Screener – SWISH Program (Permanent Part-Time) The Statewide Infant Screening – Hearing (SWISH) Program is a NSW Health initiative that provides universal newborn hearing screening to identify hearing loss as early as possible. Screening is conducted within the first few days of life, usually before discharge from hospital or shortly thereafter.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Newborn Hearing Screener to join our team on a Permanent Part-Time (PPT) basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct newborn hearing screening using Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) technology while infants are asleep or resting quietly in maternity and nursery units.
  • Identify newborns who require further assessment and facilitate referral pathways for diagnostic audiology services.
  • Communicate screening outcomes to parents and caregivers in a professional, supportive, and empathetic manner.
  • Accurately document screening results in the infant's Personal Health Record (Blue Book) and maintain records within relevant electronic databases.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure timely access to follow-up services and early intervention programs where required.
  • Adhere to SWISH program protocols, policies, and quality standards.

What You'll Be Doing

The aim of the State-Wide Infant Screening-Hearing (SWISH) program is to screen all newborn infants for hearing loss in their first few days of life prior to discharge home from their birth hospital.

  • Previous experience working with newborns or babies preferably in a hospital setting
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrate effective time management skills and is attentive to details
  • Basic computer skills with willingness to learn to use various systems
  • Experience in working within a highly technical environment and/or healthcare setting (desirabe)

NSW Health roles require Australian citizenship or permanent residency. Temporary visa holders may be considered where no suitable Australian citizen or permanent resident is identified.

NSW Health vaccination and screening requirements must be met prior to commencement.

This position requires a Working with Children Check (WWCC) issued by the Office of the Children’s Guardian.

Where required, overseas qualifications must be formally assessed by the Department of Education or relevant authority for recognition in Australia.
