Ventia’s Environmental Services business brings nearly 40 years of experience delivering complex environmental and remediation solutions, supporting clients to meet compliance obligations and deliver sustainable outcomes.

We are inviting Expressions of Interest from experienced SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Quality) professionals to join our Brisbane-based team supporting a large-scale industrial site remediation project. This role offers the opportunity to lead safety, health, environment, and quality outcomes on a technically complex, high-impact project.

About the Project

This project involves the remediation of a legacy industrial site requiring significant earthworks and environmental management to support its transition to future development. Key elements include:

  • High-volume bulk excavation works (in excess of 200,000m³) to significant depths
  • Implementation of engineered containment systems
  • Management of shallow groundwater conditions requiring extensive dewatering
  • Large-scale offsite disposal of impacted material and import of validated clean fill
  • A multi-stage delivery programme over approximately 18–24 months

The Opportunity

As SHEQ Manager, you will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of SHEQ systems across the project. You will work closely with project leaders and site teams to ensure safe execution, environmental compliance, and consistent quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a safety-first culture across all project activities
  • Lead and embed SHEQ management systems, processes, and reporting frameworks
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, licences, and project approvals
  • Oversee risk identification, assessment, and control strategies for high-risk activities
  • Manage incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Support environmental controls, including contaminated material handling and groundwater management
  • Conduct audits and inspections to maintain high standards of compliance
  • Coach and influence teams to drive continuous improvement in SHEQ performance
  • Liaise with clients, regulators, and key stakeholders on SHEQ matters

About You

  • Demonstrated experience in a SHEQ leadership role within civil construction, infrastructure, or environmental remediation
  • Strong understanding of high-risk construction environments, including earthworks and contaminated land
  • Sound knowledge of Australian SHEQ legislation and regulatory frameworks
  • Relevant qualifications in health & safety, environmental management, engineering, or related discipline
  • Proven ability to influence behaviours and foster a proactive safety and quality culture
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capability
  • Ability to operate effectively in a complex, fast-paced project environment
