Reporting to the RA Director (Asia & ANZ), the Regulatory Principal Scientist is responsible for leading the Regulatory agenda for Snacks & Beverage categories across ANZ Operating Unit geographies, including Innovation, Import/Export, external affairs and Core operations

Job Overview

Leads the Regulatory Affairs function across ANZ & Pacific markets, ensuring full compliance of food and beverage products with local regulations, internal policies, and innovation pipelines. Acts as the key external representative, shaping a science-based regulatory environment through stakeholder engagement. Supports business continuity and growth by managing regulatory risks, resolving consumer challenges, and proactively unlocking opportunities while minimizing costs and restrictions.

Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance:

    • Accountable for the Regulatory compliance of ANZ Food and Beverage businesses
    • Track regulatory developments, run impact assessments and implement new regulatory guidelines and protocols.

External Affairs:

    • Manage and engage with external Regulatory authorities and KOLs involved in regulation development and provide PEP comments for related regulations, maintaining relationships to foster a cooperative environment and ensure science based favourable regulations and minimize negative impact on business.
    • Represents PepsiCo within specific industry/trade and scientific associations, acting as a strong voice within forums to ensure PepsiCo interests are represented.
    • Lead engagement with government stakeholders where relevant on regulations via trade association connects, fostering positive relationships with KOLs.

Functional Excellence:

    • Leads an ongoing focus on improving RA effectiveness and efficiency within the ANZ, via digital transformation or other.
    • Represents RA in ANZ as well as on relevant PepsiCo functional SRA/technical committees.
    • RA lead to implement any kind of RA related tools/systems to support PEPSICO digital journey
    • Overseas the import & exports for ANZ business across Food & Beverage including Pacific Island markets.

Innovation Facilitation:

    • Act as a partner of ANZ R&D team and enabler of innovation.
    • Provides RA insights to the business to ensure innovation strategies take account of regulatory restrictions and opportunities.
    • Coordinates and build robust regulatory applications for new approvals/extended usage approvals for ingredients and additives or claims when needed.

Crisis & Incident / Issue Management:

    • Manages Regulatory Issues in ANZ through participating in Crisis Management team, and take actions where necessary to mitigate potential risks to Business.
    • Participates in negotiation and interface with regulatory/enforcement authorities.

Qualifications

  • Degree in technical discipline (Food Science, Toxicology, Biochemistry & Life Science) required. Post Qualification experience/ MBA/PHD is a benefit.
  • Proven result with Minimum of 7 years in regulatory affairs including external advocacy/engagement i.e., with FSANZ.
  • R&D Functional experience (preferably including one or more of Product and packaging development/ Regulatory/ Quality / Food Safety disciplines).
  • Strong verbal and analytical skills, attention to details, ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills, good influencing skills. Ability to gain alignment cross-functionally and leverage resources to achieve results.
