Pentana Solutions has been powering the Australian automotive industry for over 50 years. We're continuing to invest significantly in our product, further enhancing our existing platform with a modern AI-led approach. Around 1 in 3 of our staff use internal AI tools every business day. The work is real, the customers are demanding, and we're hiring.

The opportunity

You'll start in the AI squad building the tooling, integrations and standards that the broader engineering organisation will use. Longer term, you'll be embedded across the delivery teams, taking AI into the product itself.

You'll ship features, write APIs, document as you go, and look for the improvements nobody's asked for yet. This role is for doers, not debaters.

Why this role exists right now

We're investing significantly to move the product forward at pace. We need three to four AI engineers to build the tooling phase, then go embed AI where it counts.

You're not building from a blank page. The work is happening. We've shipped voice products in eight weeks and our internal AI tooling is in daily use across the business. Your job is to take it into the product itself.

You'll report to our AI Lead. You'll work alongside the AI Architect (also hiring now) and two to three other engineers like yourself in the AI squad. We're deliberately hiring a mix across the four roles - some engineers who've moved from traditional dev into AI, some ML or data engineers moving into product engineering, ideally one or two graduate-level engineers with AI-native mindsets. Different paths, same bar.

What you'll bring

• Recent hands-on AI engineering experience. Production work, not prototypes.

• Clear API and integration thinking. Pentana has more than 1000 OEM integrations, this matters.

• Broad development experience. Full-stack thinking rather than narrow specialism.

• Challenger mindset. You see process flows and identify how to make them better.

• AI-first thinking. Your engineering approach has changed because AI exists.

• .NET, Azure or HTMX experience would be an added bonus.

• Background in retail tech, logistics tech, fintech or other sectors with legacy modernisation pressure.

What to expect

Two things to know going in. First, the early months are scope and tool-building inside the AI squad, not straight-line build-and-ship from day one. Second, documentation discipline is non-negotiable - the accounting transformation taught us this is where things break down. If you want a research role, this isn't it.
