User Experience Designer
Pentana Solutions
Role can be based in Melbourne or Sydney.
Pentana Solutions has been powering the Australian automotive industry for over 50 years. We're continuing to invest significantly in our product, further enhancing our existing platform with a modern AI-led approach. Around 1 in 3 of our staff use internal AI tools every business day. The work is real, the customers are demanding, and we're hiring.
The opportunity
You'll own one or two product streams end to end. Three months in, you'll know the design system inside out. Six months in, the fundamentals across your streams are done. Twelve months in, you're building dashboards for the roles in your streams. Twenty-four months in, you're refining the high-value, role-specific use cases that genuinely change how people use the product.
You'll work hands-on. You'll write HTML and CSS. You'll build composable front-end pieces in HTMX, not just hand designs over and wait. This role is for someone who'd rather build the door handle than spend three months designing it.
Why this role exists right now
We're investing significantly to move the product forward at pace. There's a design system in place and a body of work to anchor on. What we need is two designers, peer-level with our Senior UX Designer, to take that foundation and build it out across the product.
You're not building from a blank page. The work is happening. We've shipped voice products in eight weeks and our internal AI tooling is in daily use across the business. Your job is to take that energy into the UX layer.
You'll report to our Global Architecture Manager for line management. Day-to-day you'll work alongside our Senior UX Designer on UX standards and direction. You'll partner closely with Product Managers, engineering leads, and the wider development squads.
What you'll bring
• Hands-on HTML and CSS. You build prototypes in code, not just in Figma.
• Experience designing for product squads or in-house product teams - not consulting handoff environments.
• UX research and heuristics. You can run a usability test, document a journey, and translate research into pattern decisions. Accessibility and inclusive design are part of how you work, not an afterthought.
• Investigative mindset. You ask why, validate against the customer, and find the well-known pattern that fits - then you move.
• Engineering empathy. You understand how the front-end composes, you can work with HTMX or pick it up fast.
• Autonomy with judgement. You can hold a design standard across multiple product streams, working constructively with Product Managers to land the right outcome.
• Experience designing for enterprise platforms or ERP-style products would be an added bonus.
What to expect
Two things to know going in. First, this isn't a redesign role. There's an established design system, and a senior designer who built much of it. You'll work alongside them as a peer, sharpening and extending what's there rather than starting over. If your first instinct is to rebuild from scratch, this won't be the role for you.
Second, the UX team holds the standards across the platform, even when a single product stream wants something bespoke. You'll need confidence in your judgement to hold that line constructively.
What's in it for you
• Pace. You'll work on one of the most significant transformation programmes in Australian automotive software. We're moving fast and we're already shipping.
• Meaningful work. You'll help shape the product that will run Australian automotive for the next decade. Your decisions will sit in production, in front of real customers, for years after you leave.
• A clear lane to ship. No exec gatekeeping, no two-week approval cycles. Decisions get made in the room.
• The chance to shape what comes next at Pentana Solutions. You're joining at the inflection point. What you build here will have a long-term impact on Australian automotive.
We're all about celebrating diversity and creating an inclusive, respectful team. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, including Indigenous Australians, people of colour, LGBTIQA+, and those with disabilities.
If you'd rather build the door handle than spend three months designing it, we should have a conversation. Apply now.
