The Department of Paediatrics at Gladstone Hospital has a 9-bed General Paediatric Ward, and a 4 cot Nursery. It is the hub centre for the Banana Shire accepting referrals in consultation with the Paediatrician and Retrieval Services Queensland (RSQ) for children and neonates who can be managed within the resources available. There is capacity to support paediatric patients in our High Dependency Unit (HDU). Of all CAT 1 patients presenting to the Emergency Department ED, 30% are Paediatric. Tertiary support is easily accessible including via Retrieval Services Queensland (RSQ).

About the role:

  • The Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist provides a high level of paediatric services to the Gladstone Hospital, Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS).
  • Staff Specialist with the support of Junior Medical staff provide an efficient and high-quality paediatric service to Gladstone Hospital.
  • The provision of clinical services for CQHHS is provided as one service at multiple sites. In order to meet service needs the Staff Specialist may be required to provide clinical services at any facility within the CQHHS, in line with the clinical services capability of the that facility.

About you:

  • Mandatory qualifications: MBBS or equivalent registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
    • Possession of qualifications and experience appropriate for registration as a Specialist in Paediatrics and Child Health with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
    • In general, this will require Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP – Paediatrics and Child Health) with preference of holding for 1 year.
    • If applicant does not hold FRACP – Paediatrics and Child Health, then application must be accompanied by the RACP's assessment of the applicant's specialist qualification and requirements to attain FRACP – Paediatrics and Child Health.
    • Enrolment and maintenance of ongoing CPD (Continuing Professional Development) program of appropriate College.

Total remuneration value of up to $278,939 p.a. is comprised of:

  • A salary rate between $108,322 - $125,831 p.a. (L18-L24)
  • A salary rate between $129,536 - $137,399 p.a. (L25-L27)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
