Project Engineer - Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing renewable energy business delivering Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Australia.

My client is seeking a Project Engineer with strong electrical design and project delivery experience to support the development, implementation, and commissioning of commercial, industrial, and utility-scale energy storage projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design activities for BESS projects, including design reviews and technical verification.
• Develop and maintain single-line diagrams (SLDs), wiring schematics, cable schedules, BOMs, and technical documentation.
• Review LV/MV equipment, transformers, protection systems, switchboards, RMUs, and communications infrastructure.
• Provide technical guidance to contractors, integrators, and project stakeholders.
• Support project delivery through design reviews, risk assessments, compliance activities, and commissioning support.
• Assist with FAT, SAT, grid compliance, protection settings, and energisation readiness.
• Ensure designs comply with Australian Standards, network requirements, and industry best practices.

About You

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering.
• 5 years' experience in project engineering, electrical design, power systems, renewables, industrial, or utility projects.
• Strong understanding of LV electrical design, protection systems, earthing, and electrical standards.
• Experience producing and reviewing electrical drawings, switchboard designs, and technical documentation.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Experience

• Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar, renewables, substations, or power distribution projects.
• MV design experience.
• Knowledge of AS/NZS 61439, NER, SCADA, PLCs, or protection coordination.
• RPEV registration or eligibility.
