Role Summary
We are seeking experienced Technical Authors/ Project Engineers to develop clear, accurate, and user-friendly work instructions that support safe and effective maintenance activities. This role will involve collaborating with engineering and maintenance teams to translate complex technical information into high-quality maintenance documentation.
Employment Type & Duration: Contract (6-12 months with potential extension)
Work Model: Hybrid (minimum 3 days in office)
Location: Garden Island, Sydney NSW
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and maintain technical work instructions and maintenance documentation
- Interpret technical drawings, engineering documentation, and design standards
- Collaborate with engineers, maintenance personnel, and key stakeholders to gather technical information
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise user-focused documentation
- Ensure documentation complies with relevant standards, safety requirements, and quality expectations
- Support continuous improvement of maintenance documentation processes and practices
Required Skills & Experience
- Exposure to engineering environments, including naval, mechanical, electrical, or related disciplines
- Ability to understand and interpret technical concepts related to maintenance activities
- Experience reading and analysing technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated willingness to learn new systems, processes, and technical subject matter
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and standard document creation tools
- Sydney-based and able to work onsite as required
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience producing maintenance manuals, technical procedures, work instructions, or technical bulletins
- Experience within shipbuilding, naval, marine, transport, aerospace, or other complex asset maintenance environments will be highly regarded
- Experience within defence, maritime, engineering, or asset-intensive industries
- Understanding of safety, compliance, and engineering documentation standards
- Experience or familiarity with JIRA or similar issue-tracking tools
- Ability to learn and work with defence-specific systems such as CMT-U and AMPS
- Prior involvement in engineering documentation or maintenance projects
Qualifications & Clearance
- Australian Citizenship is mandatory
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance
- Existing security clearance (Baseline or higher) will be highly regarded
- Relevant technical writing, engineering, or related qualifications are advantageous
