ABOUT THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Specialist, Government Relations to join Cricket Australia on a 12-month fixed term contract and play a key role in shaping and delivering our public policy and government engagement agenda. Reporting to the Principal Advisor, Government Relations, this role is responsible for building strong, influential relationships across government and ensuring cricket’s priorities are understood, supported and funded.
In this role you will:
- Support the development and execution of Cricket Australia’s national and state/territory government relations strategies, contributing to positioning cricket as a sport of choice for governments across Australia
- Assist in building and maintaining relationships with the Australian Government, State and Territory Governments, local governments and international stakeholders, including High Commissions and consular networks in Australia
- Contribute to the delivery of funding, partnership and advocacy outcomes by supporting engagement activities, preparing materials and identifying opportunities aligned to Cricket Australia’s priorities
- Monitor and analyse relevant federal, state and territory policy, political and stakeholder developments impacting cricket
- Provide timely updates, insights and advice to inform advocacy and engagement strategies. Support the preparation of submissions, correspondence and policy positions
- Assist in the preparation of high-quality briefing materials, reports and communication documents for internal and external stakeholders, including the CEO, Board and government representatives
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of key government-facing events and stakeholder engagement initiatives
- Support the implementation of government and public affairs communication plans, ensuring alignment with Cricket Australia’s strategic objectives
- Provide administrative, coordination and project support across the Government Relations function, ensuring activities are delivered efficiently and to a high standard
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You are a credible and proactive government relations professional who thrives in complex stakeholder environments and can translate policy engagement into tangible outcomes.
You bring:
- Demonstrated experience working within government at state or national level, or in a government relations or public affairs role within sport or similar sectors
- Proven capability in developing and delivering government engagement or advocacy strategies, including experience navigating budget and policy processes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality briefings and influence senior stakeholders
- Highly developed relationship management skills and strong political and stakeholder awareness across government
- Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and complex issues simultaneously
- Strong problem‑solving and strategic planning capability, with attention to detail and follow‑through
- A collaborative, hard‑working and outcomes-focused approach aligned to Cricket Australia’s values
- An understanding of, or willingness to quickly develop an understanding of, the game of cricket and its role in the Australian community
