- A leading national firm's Sydney M&A team
A leading national law firm is seeking a mid-level Associate (2–5 PAE) to join its Corporate M&A team in Sydney.
The firm has a strong national presence and reputation for delivering high-quality, commercially focused advice to a diverse client base, including listed companies, private businesses and investors. It offers a dynamic, collaborative and professional environment, with a clear focus on client outcomes and long-term growth.
The Opportunity
This is a key hire into a lean, deal-focused team comprising an Associate, Lawyer, Graduate and Seasonal Clerk. The incoming Associate will sit directly beneath the Partner and play a central role in the day-to-day running of matters.
The structure provides genuine responsibility, high levels of autonomy and direct client exposure, making it an ideal opportunity for a lawyer looking to step up in their career and take ownership of meaningful workstreams.
The Team
The team operates as a tight-knit, high-performing unit, working closely with the Partner across all matters. There is a strong emphasis on collaboration, accountability and early responsibility.
The practice spans M&A, capital markets and corporate advisory, advising both listed and private clients on complex transactions. The team is known for being commercial, hands-on and accessible, with a focus on delivering practical outcomes.
This environment is particularly well suited to a lawyer seeking a more prominent, front-line role on transactions, rather than operating within a heavily layered team structure.
The Role
The successful candidate will work across a broad mix of public and private M&A, equity capital markets and corporate advisory matters, including:
- Leading key components of M&A transactions, including due diligence, structuring and execution
- Supporting and, where appropriate, running equity capital markets transactions (IPOs, placements and secondary raisings)
- Drafting and negotiating transaction documentation
- Advising on Corporations Act and ASX Listing Rules compliance
- Acting as a day-to-day contact for clients
- Supervising and mentoring junior team members
- Managing transaction processes and timelines
Skills & Experience
- 2–5 years’ PQE from a well-regarded corporate/M&A or capital markets practice
- Experience in M&A and/or equity capital markets
- Strong drafting ability and technical skills with a commercial mindset
- Ability to take ownership of work and operate autonomously
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
What’s on Offer
- Direct access to senior leadership and meaningful involvement in transactions
- A clear step-up in responsibility and client exposure
- Collaborative, close-knit team culture
- Strong development pathway within a growing practice
