The Role
An opportunity has arisen for an accomplished General Counsel to join the Australian leadership team.
Reporting directly to senior executive leadership, you will be responsible for leading the legal function across the Australian business while providing strategic advice on a broad range of commercial, corporate, governance and project-related matters.
Operating as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, you will play a critical role in managing legal risk, supporting commercial decision-making and enabling the successful delivery of key business objectives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing strategic legal advice to executive leadership across all areas of the business
- Leading the negotiation and management of complex commercial agreements and contractual arrangements
- Advising on project development, procurement, delivery and operational matters
- Supporting corporate transactions, partnerships, strategic investments and growth initiatives
- Managing governance, compliance and risk management frameworks
- Overseeing dispute management, claims and external legal advisers
- Partnering with internal stakeholders to drive commercially sound outcomes
- Leading and developing the legal function while promoting best practice legal and compliance processes
The Candidate
You will be a senior legal professional with significant experience gained within a leading law firm, in-house environment, or a combination of both.
You will also bring:
- A current Australian practising certificate and approximately 15+ years' post-qualification experience
- Strong experience advising on complex commercial, corporate and project-related matters
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a trusted advisor to executive leadership teams
- Experience managing legal risk across sophisticated and multifaceted business operations
- Excellent commercial judgement and strategic thinking capabilities
- Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- The ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives
- A pragmatic, solutions-focused and collaborative approach to leadership
