About the role

Service Stream’s Utilities division is seeking a Leading Hand (Electrical) to join our Brisbane team on a full-time, permanent basis. The Leading Hand will supervise and support a small team of electricians and trades, overseeing the maintenance and upgrade of electrical, control, and telemetry systems across water and wastewater infrastructure. The role ensures all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with company and contractual standards, while maintaining a reliable and secure water supply for the community.

Key responsibilities include leading planned and reactive maintenance, coordinating high-risk works, ensuring quality assurance, and providing technical support for installations, commissioning, and repairs. The Leading Hand will assist with planning, estimating, and subcontractor engagement, promote continuous HSE improvement, and support the Maintenance Supervisor as required. The position also focuses on developing team capability, mentoring apprentices, fostering collaboration across disciplines, and championing Service Stream’s culture of safety, leadership, and accountability.

Skills and qualifications

  • 5 Years’ experience in the Water industry or similar industry (Desirable)
  • Experience with plant and equipment associated with wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations.
  • National Licence to perform High Risk work (Desirable)
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of SCADA
  • Experience working to strict set of quality systems
  • Capable of inspection, testing, adjustment and repairs of electrical equipment
  • Practical experience with pressure and flow instruments
  • Instrumentation & Control fault finding ability
  • Willingness to upskill and undertake additional training for ongoing development
